welcome the rain

i welcome the rain today driving down
kelsey sat behind me quietly
looking out at the charcoal clouds
the gray woods
the gray city
car lights in the morning
passing outside the window
she didn't say a word all the way to daycare
gazing out at the different world of rain
i was listening to a new song
glancing back in the rear-view mirror
to see my little dazed one
transfixed

at the office
the coffee seemed a comfort
sipping
listening to the rain fall
then fall harder
it's misery to many
but i welcome it this morn
i welcome the rain
and the dark skies from whence it came
a palette of black and white
subdued hues
faded blues

nice to be inside looking out
a tranquil moment
listening to the gentle commotion out the window
transfixed

send the rain Lord

hard or gentle
you always know what my soul needs
my true thirst
